It must be Spring?

The seasons in the Far North are to say the least, unpredictable. It is perhaps an over-used  comment that we can experience the weather of all four seasons in one day but I can confirm that in the case of Durness, this is quite true.​ Last week I had the pleasure of delivering another 'Learn in the Landscape' tuition course and thankfully, we managed to take advantage of the best 3 day weather window of the week.

It's always interesting to work with other people in developing their photographic skills and as delegates come from a range of backgrounds and with a range of experience, it remains a learning experience for me too.

A requirement common to most delegates is to be able to capture sharper images. That's a purely technical process and one which in most cases, is the easiest to resolve. However, I continue to stress that landscape photography is an art rather than a science. Accordingly, I aim to develop the technical skills alongside a recognition that composition is equally as important as the technical aspects alone. During our three days together we covered issues as diverse as depth of field, the use of filters, and desktop workflow whilst exploring some of the most remarkable landscape in the UK. 

There is nothing more satisfying than to see your best work in print and during the final day we select, lightly edit and produce A3+ prints of three selected images. Hopefully, this is something to remind delegates of their time in the Far North and inspire their further development.

As our three days came to an end, the weather changed from sunshine to light snow bringing the arrival of newly born lambs. It must be Spring?
